The Stashick Family - Walking Since 2018
Each December, the Ugly Christmas Sweater Walk brings the Arnprior community together in memory of Penny Stashick. What began in 2018 as a small family tribute has grown into a cherished community tradition.
The walk’s playful theme was inspired by Penny’s humour, her love of the holidays, and her natural gift for bringing people together. Over the years, seeing hundreds of participants gather in her honour has given the Stashick family a deep sense of connection, one that feels as though Penny is still sparking moments of joy throughout the community.
Since its inception, the Ugly Christmas Sweater Walk has raised more than $204,000 over eight years, helping fund life-saving medical equipment for Arnprior Regional Health. This year alone, the walk raised more than $25,000 in support of the Foundation’s Scope for Hope Endoscopy Campaign. Knowing that Penny’s legacy now strengthens vital diagnostic care close to home is both moving and humbling for her family.
“Just… thank you. Truly,” said Derek Stashick. “Whether someone has shown up once, every year, donated, volunteered, or even just shared a photo, every bit of support has built this event into what it is today.”
The Ugly Christmas Sweater Walk is a meaningful example of how a community fundraiser can make a lasting impact. By bringing people together in support of the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation, the Stashick family and event participants help ensure exceptional care remains available close to home.
