Planned Giving

Leave a Legacy

Support local healthcare for generations to come

Every year, we are honoured to receive legacy gifts from individuals who want to make a lasting difference in their community. These meaningful contributions, often made through a gift in a Will, can be planned today to support Arnprior Regional Health in the future.

A legacy gift allows you to make a lasting impact on patient care that matters to you and your loved ones. It may also offer tax advantages for you and your estate.

By remembering the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation in your Will, you help ensure that exceptional care continues close to home for years to come.

Ways to Leave a Legacy

There are many ways to create a planned gift. Here are some of the most common options.

Gift in Your Will (Bequest)

A bequest is a gift made through your Will. You can leave a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residue after other gifts and expenses.

Your estate may claim up to 100% of your income in the year of death and carry back any excess to the previous year, which can significantly reduce taxes.

The most flexible option is to direct your gift “to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation for its general purposes.” If you wish to support a specific area of care, we can work with your lawyer to ensure your wishes are clearly stated.

Letting us know your plans gives us the opportunity to thank you and prepare for the future.

Endowed Gifts

Legacy gifts may be directed to an endowed fund. The original gift remains intact and only the investment income is used. Endowments can support a specific program or the area of greatest need at Arnprior Regional Health.

Life Insurance

You can name the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy. This allows the proceeds to pass directly to the Foundation without going through your estate, avoiding estate administration taxes.

If you transfer ownership of an existing or new policy and name the Foundation as both owner and beneficiary, you may receive a charitable tax receipt for the policy’s cash value and for future premiums.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity allows you to support local healthcare while receiving a guaranteed income for life. Part of your gift provides immediate support to the Foundation, and the remainder secures income for you, often with tax advantages.

Insured Annuities

This strategy combines a life annuity and a life insurance policy. You use funds from fixed-income investments to purchase a life annuity, providing guaranteed income. At the same time, a life insurance policy is gifted to the Foundation, creating a meaningful legacy.

Gifts of Securities

Donating publicly traded securities directly to the Foundation eliminates capital gains tax and provides a tax receipt for the fair market value. This is one of the most tax-effective ways to give.

To make a donation of securities, please have your broker contact us. We will provide the necessary transfer details.

RRSPs and RRIFs

By naming the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation as the beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF, the funds pass directly to the Foundation and are not subject to estate administration taxes. The resulting tax receipt can offset taxes owing on your final return.

Other Options

There are other giving options such as charitable remainder trusts, gifts of real estate or cultural property. These require additional planning, and our team is happy to work with you and your advisors to explore the possibilities.
